I have not had contact with you since right after our last reunion when I sent some Public Education material to you. I have retired from the Fire Department as of 2001 and now work for ISO-Insurance Services Office. My wife Alice and myself are also now living on a small cattle ranch of about 200 acres with a few head of cattle and a lot of work. Life has had its many ups and downs over the past 55 years, but I believe as we age we become more aware of all of the blessings we have received. Little things in life become so much more important than all the material things we have acquired. In the past three years I have lost my grandmother, my Father, and my only and younger brother. When these events started to happen I was naturally upset and felt like it was not right or deserved and of course feeling sorry for myself. But, as time goes on we realize how much we were able to enjoy the time and what we learned from each one of them. They have left behind a legacy and have touched so many lives each in their own special way. I wish you and your family well and hope for the best for each and everyone of you. It is such a blessing to have been able to view a small but wonderful piece of your lives. I think of you often and miss you. Linda, I haven't found anyone that gives hugs as good as you! Evan, I'm thankful for the opportunity to 'get my feet wet' at PCC. I'm working with the youth at the Church at RB and loving it. Jr High kids are so impressionable. I'll be moving up to the High School group next year, as Jake will be a freshman at RB High. It's so hard to believe Jake turned 14 a couple of weeks ago! Seems like yesterday he was downstairs at the preschool with Mrs. Schooler! He's doing great in school - and continues to play on an RB travel baseball team (hope you got our Christmas card & picture of Jake in action!). He is my greatest blessing. I've had a pretty rough year with my MS. Numerous surgeries for my bladder dysfunction and an allergic reaction to a new therapy had me in the hospital for many weeks. I continue to work as an MS Advocate, talking to others who share my disease, and have been working on writing my book. I'm so happy for all the wonderful news in your family. We thought of you and prayed for your safety during the fires, and I guessed the 107 had something to do with smoke or flames. Little did I imagine your crisis involved water! (Thank God for insurance!) Looks like 2008 holds more excitement in store, with Amy graduating and Josh and Jess about to present you with a prized and precious first grandchild. Both our sons, Joel and David, are still at home. They work and take classes at the local community college while they try to figure out their career direction. Joel has an artistic bent and bemoans the fact that "art doesn't pay well" and keeps looking for a tolerable way to earn adequate income to support his passion for playing with Adobe Photoshop and composing lyrics. Of the many subjects David finds intriguing, psychology and sociology hold the greatest fascination. He's only in his second year of college; so his decisions remain fluid. But recently he seems to have focused on the possibility of becoming a profiler for some branch of the intelligence service, possibly the FBI. He would love to do his upper division studies at UCSD, but he's also aware the competition for admission is stiff. We'll see what develops. The Reasons To Believe ministry continues, by God's grace, to grow and to keep us growing in utter dependency on the Lord. Opportunities and ideas still outstrip our capacity, and we're told that's the best problem a ministry can face. So we'll take it and be glad (most of the time) for the pressures and challenges it brings. We're certainly motivated to maintain our health!
